Meet Dr. Sonja Richmond
Dr. Richmond was raised in Miami, Florida, by her South American parents. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from The University of Virginia, followed by medical school and residency at The George Washington University School of Medicine. Over nearly two decades, she has achieved several milestones in the medical field, including becoming a Board-Certified Internist and Board-Certified Hospice Medical Director. She is licensed to practice medicine in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.
Dr. Richmond is expanding her medical experience into integrative and functional medicine at NOVA IV Therapy. Bringing more than 20 years of internal medicine expertise and a deep desire to heal patients with complex conditions, she has joined NOVA IV Therapy’s mission. Over the course of 2026, Dr. Richmond will support NOVA IV Therapy’s vision to provide primary care in conjunction with integrative therapies.
Along with her medical accomplishments, Dr. Richmond has also spent the last 15 years building up her expertise in the practice and teaching of yoga. She has Ayurveda and Yin Yoga Certifications. She brings her medical insight to the yoga classes she teaches and incorporates breathwork, meditation, and movement into her work with patients as a doctor. By bringing her vast knowledge together, Dr. Richmond is able to provide a fully restorative experience for all she works alongside.
Rachel Leopold, FNP-BC
Rachel Leopold is a Family Nurse Practitioner and proud Virginia native. She earned her undergraduate degree in nursing from Radford University, where she began a career that took her from the fast pace of the ER to teaching nursing students to travel nursing across the country. She later returned to school at George Mason University to complete her graduate degree and became a nurse practitioner.
Rachel is passionate about functional medicine because it allows her to think outside the box and treat every patient as an individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all protocol. For her, healthcare is personal — she loves getting to know her patients and hearing their stories, and she often says she learns just as much from them as they do from her.
Outside the clinic, Rachel is a lifelong learner with a love of education and an avid reader. When she’s not working, you can find her cooking at home or exploring fun spots around town with her kids.
