Ozone IV Therapy
in Sterling, VA

At NOVA IV Therapy, we believe healing happens when the body is given the right support in the right way. Ozone therapy has become one of the most meaningful and transformative services we offer, especially for patients facing chronic illness, persistent infections, inflammation, or long-standing fatigue. Our practice has deep roots in the Northern Virginia community, and over the years we have witnessed how properly administered ozone IV therapy can help patients regain their health.

Many of our patients travel from across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to receive ozone therapy because they value our experience, our functional medicine perspective, and our commitment to safe, individualized care. We do not believe in shortcuts or one-size-fits-all protocols. Every ozone treatment we provide is guided by medical oversight, thoughtful evaluation, and respect for individual needs.

What Ozone Therapy is and How it Works

Ozone therapy uses medical-grade ozone, a highly energized form of oxygen, to support the body at a cellular level. When used correctly in a medical setting, ozone helps improve oxygen utilization, modulate immune responses, support detoxification pathways, and reduce chronic inflammation.

Ozone does not function like a drug. Instead, it works as a biological response modifier. When ozone interacts with blood outside the body, it creates specific byproducts, often referred to as ozonides and peroxides. These byproducts act as signaling molecules that encourage the body to improve oxygen delivery, enhance antioxidant defenses, and regulate immune activity.

One important distinction to understand is that ozone is never injected directly into the bloodstream. Direct injection of ozone gas into a vein or artery would be dangerous and could cause a gas embolus. That is why all medical ozone therapies must be performed under trained supervision using established protocols that ensure safety and effectiveness.

In properly administered ozone therapy, the blood is withdrawn from the body, exposed to ozone externally, and then reinfused. This process allows the beneficial biological effects to occur without introducing ozone gas into circulation.

Major Autohemotherapy (MAH): The Foundation of Ozone Therapy

Major Autohemotherapy, commonly referred to as MAH, is the foundational method of medical ozone therapy and has been used internationally for decades. MAH is similar in structure to an IV nutrient infusion, with one key difference.

During an MAH session, the patient is provided with a short-acting anti-coagulant to prevent blood-clotting, usually Heparin. Then a measured amount of the patient’s blood is withdrawn from a vein into a sterile IV bag. Medical-grade ozone is then infused into the bag and gently mixed with the blood. After this external interaction occurs, the treated blood is transfused back through the patient’s vein.

Because the ozone reacts with the blood outside the body, pure ozone gas is not entering the bloodstream. Instead, the therapeutic effect comes from the biological byproducts created during the mixing process. These byproducts help enhance oxygen utilization, support detoxification, and stimulate immune system activity. MAH is known for its broad therapeutic applications and is often used to support patients with chronic infections, immune dysfunction, inflammatory conditions, and circulatory challenges.

Conditions Commonly
Supported with MAH

MAH has historically been used as part of integrative care plans for:

  • Autoimmune diseases and dysfunctions

  • Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia

  • Chronic allergies and chemical sensitivities

  • Skin disorders like hives and eczema

  • Viral, bacterial, and fungal infections

  • Lyme disease, Bartonella, Babesia, and other co-infections

  • Low immunity

  • Asthma and COPD

  • Heart and vascular disease

  • Diabetic circulatory disease

  • Peripheral artery disease

  • Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis

  • Eye conditions such as retinopathies

  • Tinnitus with vascular involvement

  • Post-stroke support

  • Certain neurological and cognitive concerns

MAH is not appropriate for everyone. It is not indicated in leukemia, during the first 3 months of pregnancy, or in individuals with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD), a rare condition that is screened for prior to treatment.

10-Pass Ozone Therapy
(High-Dose Ozone Therapy)

10-Pass ozone therapy, also known as high-dose ozone therapy or OHT, is a more intensive evolution of MAH. It builds upon the same foundational principles but repeats the process multiple times in a single session to achieve deeper systemic effects.

During a 10-Pass session, a small amount of blood is withdrawn into a sterile bottle, ozonated with the maximum recommended ozone concentration under hyperbaric pressure, and reinfused back into the body. This constitutes one pass. The process is then repeated a total of 10 times within the same session.

What distinguishes 10-Pass therapy from standard MAH is both the cumulative ozone exposure and its impact on cellular signaling. Research and clinical observation have shown that stem cell activation becomes evident during passes 8, 9, and 10. This regenerative response is one of the reasons 10-Pass ozone therapy is often referred to as the most advanced oxidation therapy available today.

Unlike traditional MAH, which does not stimulate stem cell activity, 10-Pass therapy has been observed to support regenerative processes that may be beneficial for chronic and complex conditions requiring more aggressive intervention. Our clinic is also researching additional intensities of 15-pass and 20-pass to be offered in the near future.

When 10-Pass Therapy
is Considered

10-Pass ozone therapy may be recommended for patients
dealing with:

  • Long-standing or treatment-resistant conditions

  • Chronic infections or immune dysregulation

  • Severe inflammation

  • Neurological or cognitive concerns

  • Cardiovascular disease

  • Erectile dysfunction related to vascular health

  • Post-viral syndromes

  • Systemic illness requiring deeper support

Because of its intensity, 10-Pass therapy is always performed under strict medical supervision and only after careful evaluation. Most patients must begin their Ozone journey with traditional MAH for their first 4-6 sessions, then move up to a 5-pass to prime their immune system before reaching a ready-state for 10-pass. The provider will create a specific and clear plan, unique to each patient’s needs, to ensure a gentle, but optimal outcome.

Hemealumen IV Ozone

The Hemealumen is an advanced polychromatic device that enhances IV ozone therapy, triggering immune response by exposing a small percentage of blood to controlled full-spectrum light across various wavelengths, improving blood indices, mitochondrial function, and promoting healing through specific light therapies.

The Hemealumen device delivers wide-spectrum photonic energy through multiple light sources, including dual-wavelength UVA, high-output UVC, and 60 watts of visible wavelengths. This comprehensive approach targets cellular functions at the molecular level, particularly affecting mitochondrial activity. The device's primary mechanisms include deactivating pathogen DNA through UV exposure and enhancing mitochondrial electron transfer processes critical to the Krebs Cycle. At its core, the Hemealumen provides peak energy absorption spectrums specific to NAD+ and NADH coenzymes, which are fundamental to cellular redox reactions.

The upgraded pulsed wave (PW) functionality of the Hemealumen device represents a significant enhancement over continuous wave (CW) light therapy devices. Scientific evidence demonstrates that pulsed light delivery offers superior efficacy across multiple biological applications, particularly in regenerative medicine contexts.

The pulsed modification in the Hemealumen machine represents a critical advancement in PhotoBioModulation technology. It enhances therapeutic outcomes through three core mechanisms: biological resonance alignment, optimized energy delivery, and enhanced cellular responses. This innovation bridges traditional photonic therapy with principles of vibrational medicine, where targeted frequencies influence cellular function at quantum levels.

Complementary Affects of Light Therapy with Ozone

Infrared (800nm): Boosts energy production in mitochondrial red blood cells, improving their function and metabolism. Promotes vasodilation, oxygen delivery and cell signaling. IR is very supportive for chronic fatigue as it stimulates ATP production. Preserves cell integrity and regulates osmotic properties, potentially reducing oxidative stress.

Dual Red LEDs (625 and 660 nm): Enhances mitochondrial energy by increasing Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and catalase enzyme activity, which improves blood flow and stimulates the immune system by activating T-cells and macrophages. It can inhibit coagulation and platelet aggregation.

Green LED (525 nm): Improves blood flow by increasing mobility and function of blood cells while reducing clotting. Increases oxygen supply and has strong anti-inflammatory properties. Enhances ATP production in calls, supporting greater energy,

Violet LED (430 nm): Promotes vasodilation, reduces inflammation, enhances blood flow, and improves oxygen and nutrient delivery. It activates Curcumin for treating chronic conditions like cancer but should not be pre-treated before infusion.

Ultraviolet A (340, 365 nm): Increases oxygen absorption into body tissues, improves circulation, reduces platelet aggregation, dilates blood vessels. Increases body’s ability to detoxify, and stimulates NADH and NAD+ production, which are fundamental molecules for energy production, metabolism, and immune function.

Ultraviolet C (253.7 nm): Provide germicidal affect, deactivates pathogens – anti-fungal, anti-viral, and antimicrobial; UVC also stimulates NAD+ production.

How Hemealumen Works with Ozone

Hemealumen is typically paired with either the 10-pass Ozone machine or the EBOO Ozone machine. However, it can also be used in traditional MAH sessions. The procedure begins with a patients blood being mixed with ozone. Then the ozonated blood is passed through a specialized TriVette cartridge in the Hemealumen device, which exposes the blood to the six light sources. Once the ozonated blood has been activated by light, then it’s reinfused back into the patient.
